Do not order a track head for an existing rail until the rail series, adapter, conductor arrangement, supply and control requirements have been checked. Two tracks can look similar in a photo but use different mechanical or electrical interfaces.
The fastest route to a reliable answer is to identify the installed rail exactly, then compare it with the proposed track-head configuration.
Compatibility is more than the number of wires
The number of conductors is important, but it does not prove that a track head will fit or operate correctly. The rail profile, adapter shape, circuit arrangement, earthing provision and intended supply all affect compatibility.
If a project uses an existing branded rail, start with its manufacturer, series name and product label. Avoid relying on a verbal description such as “three-phase track” or “four-wire track” alone.

What to send for a technical check
Send the rail brand and series first. If that is unavailable, provide:
- one photo looking into the end of the rail;
- one side photo of an existing track head installed on the rail;
- a photo of every label on the rail and existing head;
- the project country and site supply details;
- the proposed fixture model and quantity;
- the required dimming or control method.
This is more useful than sending only a general room photo.
KLM Practical Note
KLM’s local specifications identify KLM-HH007 straight track and KLM-D015 straight connector as components for a 4-wire track system. The local KLM-045Z-15W specification identifies the luminaire as track mounted, but does not state a universal rail standard or a compatibility list.
Therefore, KLM should confirm the rail/head combination against the final rail identification and selected product before a customer is told that the components are compatible.
Check control requirements separately
Physical fit does not guarantee control compatibility. A project using DALI, 0–10V or another control method needs confirmation of the selected fixture’s driver option and the project wiring/control scheme.

Can an existing rail be used with a dimmable track head?

What if there is no label on the existing rail?
Send clear photos, dimensions and an existing compatible head. KLM can review the available information, but final compatibility should not be stated without sufficient evidence.
